What is new media

Citing Wikipedia, “new media is a term meant to encompass the emergence of digital, computerized, or networked information and communication technologies in the later part of the 20th century.”
Wikipedia is citing Flew (2008) who said that most technologies described as "new media" are digital, often having characteristics of being manipulable, networkable, dense, compressible, and impatial.
Though the term “new” is highly disputable, it should be understood in comparison to media, which existed long before the time when the digital information filled out our everyday life. However, the difference between “old” and “new” media is not only the form. Thus, if the “old” media was a one way communication process then the “new” media is a two way communication process. Moreover, the “new” media gives everyone a chance to be not just a consumer but also an author, and active participant in the communication process.
